Newsletter 23rd February
Newsletter 23rd February
Welcome back to school.
We hope you have all enjoyed the snow and have eaten sufficient pancakes to enjoy them, but not too many!
Just before every holiday I talk to the children about having a safe and happy holiday, reminding them that Mr Nelson, Mrs Hawkins and myself do not want to make a trip to “Nobles” to see anyone in the children’s ward. Unfortunately this time, I have had to do just that. Milli Gale from Y1 was seriously hurt in an accident. She is currently in Alder Hey, but she is now making very good progress.
I am sure you will join with me and wish Millie a speedy recovery.
Meanwhile, let us all pull together to help this family in our community in whatever small ways we can. Thank you to those families who have already made such an effort.
Another Prefect
The staff have decided to make another prefect. Niamh Murdoch only joined the school community last summer, but has made such a positive impression on staff, with her quiet nature and helpful manner, that it was a unanimous decision that she too must join the group.
Well done Niamh!
Lunch Money and Milk Money
Thank you to those who have already paid these bills and a reminder to those who haven’t.
Dinners- February to Easter - £50.75
Milk - £5.22
Cheques made payable to IOM Government please.
Juice and milk for Nursery children - £5.22
Snack money is £5.80.
Cheques made payable to Bride School.
Valentine Disco and Raffle
Thank you to all those who worked so hard to make the Valentine Disco a success. £158 was raised for FOABs funds. The children’s hampers were won by Erin Millar, Niamh Murdoch, Milli Gale, Mathew Jauncey, Erin Dobbie, Joseph Devany and Phoebe Sheward.
The adult hampers were won by Sylvia, Mrs Cottier, Mrs Walsh, Mrs Kennish, Nicola M, Dora M, Mrs Brown, Mrs McNally and Mrs Hawkins.
Uniform Sale
MONDAY 1st MARCH is the date for the next uniform sale. Again it will be held in the dining room. 2.30pm - 4pm.
Please come into school by the main school door.
As spring is just around the corner perhaps this is a good opportunity to try on those summer clothes from last year and maybe replace them from the uniform sale. It is also an
opportunity for you to clear out those items that are of no use to your own children this year.
Sutton’s Seeds
Please could everyone return any orders for seeds that you would like to help make your gardens beautiful for the summer. We can then send off all the orders as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Daffodil bulbs
Most of you will have received a flyer before half term.
The daffodil bulbs will be judged by the Root Show organisers during the morning of Thursday March 4th. Please bring the daffodils to school on that day.
World Book Day
This is also March 4th. We would like the children to come to school dressed as a favourite children’s book character. We will be having lots of “story book” activities in school that day. We will also send home the £1.00 book voucher for each child on World Book Day. Please make sure you retrieve them from the depths of the book bags and ruck sacks!
Young Teachers
We are delighted to have three young teachers from Lancaster University with us for a few weeks. Mr Murdoch is in Year 5 working with Mrs McGeehan, Miss Blakeley is in Year 2 working with Mr Nelson and Miss Forster is at Bride working with Mrs Hawkins.
Maths Week
The week beginning 8th March is to be a Maths week. Emphasis this year will be on Philosophy for Children through Maths.
Learning to think is a vital skill for us all. For too long school curriculum’s suppressed individuality and refused to acknowledge independence of opinion and thought from children. As educated adults, I am sure you all appreciate that this is not an acceptable state in the 21st Century. As a school, we are committed to developing the ability of children to reflect and consider their actions and opinions on others. All teaching staff are currently undergoing training to become level 1 Philosophy for Children teachers. In due course we will hold an information evening for parents on Philosophy for Children.
