Boa Constrictor

Boa constrictors kill their prey by squeezing it tightly so that it can't breathe. Then they swallow it whole! To swallow large prey a boa must dislocate its jaws to make its mouth open wide enough.

Did you know?

Boa constrictors have a very striking pattern of spots, stripes and patches. This helps to camouflage them in the leaf litter of the forest so that they can hunt without being seen.

Wow!

Boa constrictors can live for up to 30 years. They keep on growing throughout their whole life, to over 4 metres long. The record for the largest boa is 5.5 metres!
