Crowned Crane |

If you think that peacocks are magical looking birds, take a look at the crowned crane. With its long legs, slender neck and beautiful golden crown, it looks as if it belongs in a fairy tale. |

This bird is not yet rare in the wild but its numbers are getting fewer because of hunting, pollution, and destruction of its wild habitat.
Crowned cranes perform and incredible dance routine at mating time. They stretch out their wings, bow low to their partners and dance round in a circle. Every so often they leap high in the air. Local tribes copy the dance of the crowned crane in their own ceremonies.
