Once, these playful creatures were common in the U.K. but they were hunted for sport or for their fur, and as a result became very rare.
Today, it is against the law to harm them and, gradually, their numbers are increasing.

Did you know?

Otter droppings (called spraints) are usually the only clue that otters are around. Otters are so shy of humans that it is very hard to observe them in the wild.
Wow!
Although otters spend a great deal of time in the water, their skin never gets wet! This is because they keep their fur covered in special oil to waterproof it.
