Gentle Lemur

These pretty lemurs are sadly very rare in the wild nowadays - in fact there might soon be none left at all. In spite of this, people still hunt and kill them to eat.

Places like Jersey Zoo (and maybe, one day, the Wildlife Park) are trying to help by breeding gentle lemurs so that they will not become extinct.

Did you know?

Gentle lemurs live only in the swampy reed and papyrus beds around Lake Alaotra, in Madagascar. When people cut down the reeds, the lemurs have nowhere else to go.

Wow!

The gentle lemur is thought to be the only type of lemur that can swim well!
