Giant African Land Snail |
Snails move slowly along on one big foot - leaving a trail of sticky slime as they go. Giant African land snails are the world's largest snails - their shell can reach 20 cm in length. |
Sometimes Giant African Snails have been taken to countries where they don't belong and released into the wild by mistake. This has caused serious problems because they have enormous appetites and have eaten all the crops!
Each snail is both male and female - any two snails can mate and produce babies (up to 1200 in just one year!)
