Many people think that millipdes have a thousand legs. This isn't quite true, but they do have several hundred!

The giant African millipede is the largest type of millipede in the world. It has been known to grow to over 30 cm long and can be as fat as a man's thumb.

Did you know?

Millipedes feel gard when you touch them because thir body is covered with a tough outer shell called an exoskeleton.

Wow!

We know from fossils that there were millipedes living on the earth over 400 million years ago. Some of them were over a metre long.
