This Australian bird is named "the laughing jackass" because it makes a noise that sounds like cackling laughter: "koo hoo hoo hoo hoo ha ha ha ha ha". It is quite common in southern and eastern Australia, and often visits parks and gardens. | |

Baby kookaburras are looked after by both parents and usually an older brother or sister helps too. | |

The kookaburra eats small animals such as snakes, lizards, birds and rodents. To kill them it bashes them hard against its perch. | |
