Kookaburra

This Australian bird is named "the laughing jackass" because it makes a noise that sounds like cackling laughter: "koo hoo hoo hoo hoo ha ha ha ha ha". It is quite common in southern and eastern Australia, and often visits parks and gardens.

Baby kookaburras are looked after by both parents and usually an older brother or sister helps too.

The kookaburra eats small animals such as snakes, lizards, birds and rodents. To kill them it bashes them hard against its perch.
