Magpie Goose

These strange looking geese from Australia have a rather odd breeding habit - two females share a nest with one male and the three of them share the care of the young!

Did you know?

Most types of water birds moult their feathers once a year, and whilst this is happening they cannot fly. However, magpie geese moult gradually throughout the year so they never lose the ability to fly.

Wow!

Magpie geese are not closely related to other types of geese. Some scientists think they shouldn't even be called geese.
