Marsh Mongoose

This small brown animal is found in all the wetter parts of Africa.

It uses its sharp, strong teeth to kill and eat almost any small creature it can find, though it is rather partial to fruit, too.

Did you know?

The mongoose sometimes finds it hard to get its jaws round hard foods such as crabs or birds' eggs, so it bashes them against a stone to break them open.

Wow!

This type of mongoose has a clever way of catching birds: it lies on its back so that its pale pink bottom (contrasting with its dark brown fur) can be seen from the air. When a bird swoops down to investigate, the mongoose grabs it!
