Great White Pelican

The great white pelican is one of the largest flying birds in the world, with a wingspan of nearly three metres. Although it is rather clumsy on land, it is fast and graceful in the water or in the air.

Did you know?

The pelican has a huge beak with a pouch underneath, which is used to scoop fish out of the water. The pouch is stretchy and can hold several litres of water, which is squeezed out, whilst the fish is swallowed whole.

Wow!

The great white pelican is a superb flier and is able to fly for a whole day and night without stopping, covering a distance of about 300 miles.
