Pink-backed Pelican

These pelicans are very similar to the great white pelicans. They differ in the following ways:

• They come from Africa and W. Arabia, but are not found in Europe or Asia.
• They do not migrate for long distances, although they may fly to new feeding grounds locally.
• Feeding in teams is unusual - they usually fish singly, swimming along slowly or staying still in the water.
• They are smaller than great white pelicans.
• Their colour is darker and more mottled.
