Scientific Name : Eulemur fulvus rufus
All lemur species live in Madagascar. Red-fronted lemurs come from areas in the east and west of the island.
Red-fronted lemurs live in deciduous forests. They are arboreal which means that they live in the tree tops. As you would expect, they are very good at climbing and leaping.
Their main diet is fruit and leaves but they are very adaptable, depending on what they can find. If fruit and plants are scarce they will eat tree sap, insects, birds' nests and even dirt!
They are hunted by birds of prey and sometimes by people.
Red-fronted lemurs start to breed when they are between 1 and 2 years of age. Females usually gave just one baby each year, born Sept-Nov.
Other interesting facts
Red-fronted get along well with each other and squabbles are rare. They do not seem bothered about defending their territory.
Like other lemurs, they spend a lot of time grooming each other and their bottom teeth are specially adapted to form a comb.
As with all lemurs, their hands are well developed, with nails, rather than claws.
They communicate using
sound ( a wide range of different calls) and smell ( they have scent glands
on their wrists). All species of lemur communicate in these ways.
