Rodrigues Fruit Bat

These bats are found only on the island of Rodrigues in the Indian ocean. They are considered to be "critically endangered" which means that there are only a few of them left on earth. If people keep killing them and destroying their trees they might soon become extinct.

Did you know?

Another name for this type of bat is the "flying fox". It is not difficult to see why! Actually, bats are the only mammals that can fly.

Wow!

The wings of a bat are made of a thin membrane stretched across very long finger bones. They are very agile in the air - weaving and diving between the trees; however on land they are very slow and clumsy.
